The Italian rider sets his sights on Aragon return.

WorldSBK.com caught up with EVO rider Luca Scassa (Team Pedercini Racing Kawasaki), who is currently recovering from a pelvis injury sustained following a high-speed crash at Phillip Island during official testing. The former Italian Superbike Champion is working hard to be fit for the next round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, scheduled for April 11-13 at MotorLand Aragon, Spain.

How do you feel now?
"I'm very good at the moment, trying to recover the best way although it's not easy. Fortunately I have a lot of people supporting me and helping me every way they can, starting from my girlfriend."

You definitely had a difficult start of the season, but the long break could not have come at a better time.
"I believe no one wishes for a start the season like the one I had. This long break though plays in my favour, even though I would have loved to spend this time training rather than recovering."

What is your rehabilitation programme made of?
"My rehabilitation programme includes magnetic therapy sessions to help the process of calcification of the pelvic bone and also electrical stimulation, because I'm losing muscle mass in my legs. It's quite a shame because I did a great job training over the winter with my personal trainer Francesco Papaveri and now everything is lost. I hope I can recover as quick as I can to start training and jump back on my bicycle, I really need it!"

Are you going to be on track at Aragon?
"A broken pelvis usually takes around 30 days. Considering there are still 40 days left before the next round and that I'm currently in the third week of rehabilitation, I really think I will be at Aragon. I hope that I can start doing some cycling with my Enduro team soon."

The EVO bikes proved to be competitive at Phillip Island, how did you find your bike in comparison with the full-spec WSBK machines?
"The EVO class is the winning formula in my opinion. I liked it as soon as it was announced, many people don't have a good opinion about it but I think we should take a clear look to the reality of things. I'm happy that Kawasaki and David (Salom) won the first two races, this gives me an extra motivation to show what we are capable of. Our goal is to fight up front with in the EVO class, the bike has already shown its potential and now it's up to us."
